Speakers:

Clare Petrich

Commissioner | Port of Tacoma

Clare Petrich is a small business owner with strong ties to Tacoma’s maritime heritage. She is co-founder and former chair of the Commencement Bay Maritime Fest, an advisor to Tacoma Community Boat Builders and deeply involved in maritime heritage research. Clare serves on the Joint Municipal Action Committee, Pacific Northwest Waterways Association, the Youth Marine Foundation, the Flood Control Zone District Committee and the Washington Council on International Trade. She was recently elected to the boards of Sister Cities International and the Washington State Trust for Historic Preservation. She is a past president of the Puget Sound Regional Council’s Economic Development District Board and continues to serve on this board. She is also board secretary for the Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle.

Commissioner Petrich and Port of Tacoma Commissioner Connie Bacon were co-recipients of the Tacoma Propeller Club’s 2015 Master Mariner Person of the Year award, and she received the Seattle Propeller Club’s 2015 Public Official of the Year award with Port of Seattle Commissioner Stephanie Bowman. Clare graduated from Manhattanville College in New York and received her master’s degree from the University of Virginia. She is a senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum.

 

Tong Zhu:

Chief Commercial Officer & Chief Strategy Officer | Northwest Seaport Alliance

Tong oversees the organization’s commercial team, including the alliance’s cargo and real estate businesses, marketing and research. Tong will speak on the economic importance of the supply chain and the state of the shipping industry.

Tong most recently served as the chief commercial officer at the Port of Tacoma since 2010. She joined the Port of Tacoma in 2007. As chief commercial officer, she managed the activities of the Port’s diversified business portfolio, including container, non‐container (breakbulk and RoRo), intermodal and real estate. She also oversaw the marketing, research and customer outreach activities of the Port’s business development teams.

Before joining the Port of Tacoma, Zhu managed international relations at the Port of Seattle and directed the State of Washington’s greater China trade development programs. With the state, she played a critical role in former Gov. Gary Locke’s successful China trade development programs and helped advance and finalize business contracts and international agreements.

Tong also serves on the Executive Committee of the Washington State China Relations Council, and the Boards of Directors of the Japan America Society of the State of Washington and the Evergreen Building Products Association.

 

Luke Duvall: 

VP & Seattle Station Manager | Air Tiger Express (USA), Inc.

Luke is a licensed US Customs Broker & Manager in the international freight forwarding customs brokerage, marine cargo insurance & third-party logistics field. Luke will explain the process of shipping from loading dock to loading dock and provide tips for ensuring smooth transit.

Luke is a Seattle native and alumni of the University of Washington. When he is away from the industry, he enjoys hiking and skiing in the Pacific Northwest with his wife Jeanine.”

Amy is the President of AMES International, a manufacturer of gourmet nuts, teas, and confections dedicated to producing high-quality product while retaining their individual attention to care. Over the last several years, Amy has helped AMES expand to become one of the largest nut roasters and chocolate manufacturers on the West Coast.
